What Are The Most Popular Dishes Canadians Love To Order Online?

Don’t think for a second that, just because the pandemic is behind us, Canadians have stopped ordering food online. In fact, online food ordering has seen a significant rise across Canada in recent years. According to Statista, the Online Food Delivery market in Canada is projected to reach a revenue of $16.28 billion (USD) in 2025. So, what are Canadians ordering the most?

Pizza.

Well, of course! Pizza is a timeless favourite and probably the most famous food designed for delivery. Whether it’s a classic pepperoni, a fully loaded deluxe or a gourmet vegetarian option, pizza is always an ultimate crowd-pleaser.

Says DoorDash Canada, pizza consistently ranks among the most ordered foods, alongside chicken dishes, sandwiches and sushi. With variations such as thin crust, deep dish and gluten-free options, pizza is only gaining in popularity.

Poutine.

Well, it’s a Canadian classic, right? No list of popular Canadian dishes would be complete without poutine. This quintessential comfort food is made with crispy fries, rich gravy and cheese curds. It is a definite go-to choice on many online orders. Many restaurants now offer unique variations such as pulled pork poutine or butter chicken poutine, making it even more irresistible.

Courtesy of Canada Newswire, Skip reports that poutine is especially popular in provinces like Alberta and Ontario. “Ontario took its poutine obsession to the next curd, with 36% of all poutine orders in Canada,” reports their website, “Not far behind, Alberta made a strong showing with 27% of all national orders of the iconic dish.”

Burgers.

No surprise here either, right? Burgers are another favourite choice for Canadians who order their food online. From classic beef burgers to plant-based options, Canadians love the convenience of getting their favourite burger combos delivered straight to their doors. Many restaurants now offer fully customizable options. They include unique toppings like avocado, caramelized onions and specialty sauces.

As reported by DSL Canada, 89% of consumers say they eat burgers at least monthly. “It’s no secret that Canadians love their burgers!” declares their website, “Of consumers who eat burgers twice a week, 61 per cent say they purchase burgers as part of a combo, and 37 per cent are purchasing value-menu burgers more than they were 2 years ago. 82 per cent of consumers say the quality is one of their top considerations when purchasing a burger.”

Sushi.

Sushi has become one of the top choices for health-conscious Canadians looking for a quick and delicious meal. Options range from traditional sashimi to creative sushi rolls and poke bowls. At the end of the day, sushi offers something for everyone. The availability of fresh, high-quality ingredients and customizable options has contributed to the enduring popularity of this Japanese cuisine in Canada.

“Overall, the country with the most significant proportion of searches for sushi turned out to be Canada at nearly 6%,” reveals Marissa Ellis of Sakuraco, “Despite having a smaller population than many of the countries included in our research, at around 38 million, the country still managed to have the 3rd largest number of individual searches (totalling 2.17 million).”
